Program Description

RWTH UROP enables students in the second academic year and up, to conduct temporary research projects at RWTH Aachen University, to be part of an RWTH research team and to support their work. By implementing teaching contents learned, the students will experience a necessary expansion of their study program and be acquainted with topics and methods of their disciplinary area at a very early stage of their academic career. UROP projects promote the students' disciplinary and extra-disciplinary development and lead them to new career perspectives, e.g. graduate studies. In addition, they will get in contact with excellent researchers from our university.

Projects may be offered within and outside the semester and are not bound to fixed programme data or duration.

RWTH Aachen University will offer a wide range of possible internship options in the fields of Natural Sciences, IT, Engineering, Sociology, Medicine, Psychology or Economics, just to name a few. UROP is generally open for projects from all different fields.

Students from North American universities with US or Canadian citizenship in their sophomore or junior year who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher are welcome to apply to UROP International. No tuition fees will be charged and German language skills are not required. Due to the competitive nature of the program, not all applicants can be offered a project placement.

In addition, 30 scholarships will be available, which will be awarded to students with an outstanding academic record (based on a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a letter of recommendation). The scholarships will amount to 1,850 € to cover the living expenses during your stay in Aachen. We will notify you whether you have been considered for a scholarship by the end of February. If you have not been considered for a scholarship, you should put aside around 2,000 € for your stay in Aachen.
