United Arab Emirates

Description

Emerged from a truce of seven sheikhs and Britain, this small country sits on the southeastern Arabian Peninsula in southwest Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia and Oman, with a coastline to the Persian Gulf. The geography is comprised of level, barren coastal plains that merge into gently sloping sand dunes that make up the extensive desert wasteland. With mountains to the east, the climate is somewhat cooler, but overall the United Arab Emirates experience a desert like climate.

Once call the Trucial States, the United Arab Emirates have become a Federal Constitutional Monarchy that gained independence in 1971. While Abu Dhabi is the capital, Dubai is the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates. The country is represented by the Chief of State, the President, and the Head of Government, the Prime Minister, where both titles are hereditary. The economy flourished after discovering oil in the region, despite that it\'s very diversified, the oil sector still contributes about 30%. With a prosperous economy that employs the Emirati Dirham, the standard of living is high.

The Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation was established by the government, as a result to maintain its traditions in culture and art. Aside from the traditional camel racing, new sports are greatly enjoyed by the United Arab Emirates. One can enjoy the many beaches and shopping plaza\'s Dubai is known to offer. The architecture is innovative, as clearly depicted with the extraordinary view of the Burj Al Arab Hotel. Dubai Media City has helped to make Dubai the media hub for the region, encompassing both the creation of media, from print through television and new media, and the advertising and marketing industry.
