Professor Lap Chi Kwong, Architecture ARCH 497: Swiss Assembly - Building as the Ultimate Model

This course is designed for students to learn architectural building assembly through the expression of material and construction. For the first three weeks, classes and workshops will be held at IIT. Choosing from the set of Swiss buildings that we will visit during the travel to Switzerland, students will re-assemble one material and construction technique into a large scale model for the final deliverable. During the second half of the course, students will travel for 10 days in Switzerland, visiting buildings and architecture offices to see how the design processes and operations vary from small to large offices.

Cost: $2000 program fee which covers housing and local transportation, as well as some group activities. Students will need to pay for their own airfare and meals, as well as Illinois Tech Tuition for 3 credit hours.

DEADLINES: Application deadline: February 15, 2018. A $1000 deposit is due for course travel expenses on February 15, 2018. The final $1000 payment is due on April 30, 2018. If after the course travel in Switzerland there is any unused money remaining, it will distributed back to the students.
